Governor Polis visited Montbell HQ in Osaka during his recent investment mission in Japan. He presented our founder with a State of Colorado Proclamation in recognition of activating Outdoor Gientai in response to the Marshall Fire in 2021. CEO Tatsuno presented the Governor with a wooden carving of Monta, our company's bear mascot.
This weather-resistant puffy keeps the heat in and the precip out.
Sometimes our gear testers act like kindergartners: They know they’re supposed to share, but they just don’t want to. And we’ve never seen a product bring out the childishness like this down jacket. Its premium 1,000-fill feathers pack tiny and puff up fat, the 13-denier ripstop nylon feels more like a force field than fabric, and a Gore Infinium exterior makes the Ignis more weather-resistant than any ultralight puffy we’ve seen. One tester wore it on a two-week trek in Nepal and he was still hoarding it on our trip to Banff. “I would have passed it on to someone else,” he claims, “but I was always wearing it.”
That’s because of two key attributes. First, it nails a Goldilocks level of warmth—just right for wearing alone over a baselayer while you’re on the move in cold temps, layering under a thicker parka in camp, and packing as your only insulation in mild conditions (it packs down to slightly smaller than a 1-liter Nalgene). Second, the Infinium—a name that applies to Gore tech with a wide range of applications; this one is windproof—extends the jacket’s versatility in wet and gusty weather, but it’s still uncommonly breathable (a slim cut helps). “I’ve never actually worn a down jacket while touring, but with this jacket I did,” says a guide who took the Ignis on an expedition to Mt. Logan in Canada, with temps as low as -34℃. The Gore laminate is not waterproof, but we used it comfortably in drippy conditions.
Features are spare, but you still get hand pockets, two interior drop pockets, an exterior chest pocket (men’s version only), and an adjustable hood. We expected durability to be a weakness, and while you shouldn’t subject the wispy fabric to bushwhacking abuse, it suffered no damage during two months of alpine adventures. The only caveat is price, but that’s not too bad considering you now own something everyone will want to borrow.

The Paralympic Games have started on September 7th, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Montbell has provided Japan's paracanoe sprint athlete, Ms. Seryu, with her event uniform.
Cherry blossoms and waves, a truly Japanese design.
Ms. Seryu provided the idea for the design, asking for a truly Japanese print of cherry blossoms and waves. In addition to evoking feelings of beauty and power, it is also a an extremely technical garment, incorporating 4-way stretch fabric throughout the garment so as not to impede movement while paddling and a world class perform water repellent treatment to keep her dry.
Before her departure for Rio, we took some time to speak with her about the attraction to the sport. "When I'm on top of the water, I'm in a barrier free environment. On ground there are so many obstacles in everyday life that when I'm on the water I'm really free to move as I wish." Ms. Seryu's motto is "have fun." Montbell is proud to be helping Ms. Seryuu with her goal of having fun on the water in Rio.
Schedule:
9/14 (Wed) 9:00am (GMT-3) Canoe Sprint Women's KL1 Heats
9/15 (Thur) 9:00am (GMT-3) Canoe Sprint Women's KL1 Final
Athlete Profile: Monika Seryu

During yesterday's award ceremony (July 13, 2016) at the OutDoor Show, Montbell's Alpine Thermo Bottle 0.5L received the OutDoor Industry Award. OutDoor Show is one of the world's largest international outdoor and sporting goods trade shows, and takes place in Friedrichshafen, Germany.
Fall 2016, the Alpine Thermo Bottle is smaller and lighter, compared to previous versions of our thermal bottle, yet we've been able to increase the volume of the bottle by 50ml. This seemingly impossible task was done by reducing the size of the sidewalls and the width of the vacuum chamber. Copper plating on the outside of the inner chamber helps reflect heat back into the bottle and current tests show better insulating properties than previous versions of the bottle. The cap has also been redesigned to be easier to grip with gloves on and prevent heat from escaping out of the top of the bottle. Available in two different sizes; 500ml (265g) and 900ml (380g).

....."We confirmed the price three times before we actually believed it. A full-featured, 800-fill goose down puffy for $220? Unheard of. If it’s maxi-mum warmth per dollar you’re after, this is your coat. “I can't imagine ever needing more insulation than this jacket offers,” says one tester who wore it on winter camping trips in New England with temps hovering around 0°F. The traditional box baffle construction means no sewn-through seams, hence no cold spots, and the dropped hem kept our midlines covered even when we were bending and twisting while pitching tents. And despite the killer price tag, Montbell is not stingy with the features. The overstuffed hood cinches down over a beanie or expands to accommodate a helmet, and fleece-lined pockets up the cozy factor. The chunky zipper never snags, even though there's a wind-blocking draft tube be-hind it. “I've tested hundreds of puffy jackets over the years,” our gear editor says. “This one does everything right, and costs $50 to $100 less than its competitors.” "..... - Texts from Backpacker Magazine
